Frequently asked questions
Etsy is a global online marketplace for unique and creative goods, connecting buyers looking for handmade, vintage, and craft supplies with independent sellers.
I manage and maintain the Ponymandium web store through Etsy. It allows me to manage my sock availability, track orders, communicate with buyers and offer promotions and sales.
This website serves as an online catalogue for the memorial jewellery and keepsakes I sell in my Etsy store. Under each item is a 'buy on Etsy' button which will link you through to my store listing, where you can select product options such as colour and style, and check out through Etsy's secure system.
You do not need to have an Etsy account to purchase items - you can place an order as a guest!
It saves me no time or effort to use any fur or ashes other than that which you send to me – the process would still be the same, so there’s no point! I have been making memorial jewellery for years and have a very careful and organised process so that I know exactly which orders are where, and at what stage. I treat your hair or ashes with the respect I would wish someone else to treat my loved ones, and I work on one order at a time and clean down in between.
I can only stress that I have loved and lost pets and family of my own, and so I find the thought of getting it wrong quite upsetting. I’m not a big factory - just one person - and so orders don't get mislaid or mixed up.
When the sole purpose of Ponymandium is making tangible and beautiful memories for people, sending you the wrong item would be literally the worst thing I could do! It would undermine the whole reason Ponymandium exists - so rest assured, what you send to me is what I will use.
Each ornament or piece of jewellery requires a different amount of hair or ashes, which is detailed in the Process tab of each item, and also in the Etsy listing description. Furthermore, when you place an order I will message you with confirmation and an explanation of how much I need, how to pack it, and where to send it.
I recommend that you don't send all of the hair or ashes that you have, in case of mishaps in the post, and increased mailing costs.
I always return any hair or ashes that haven’t been used in your order. The only time I can’t do this is if I am returning an order to Australia, as it is prohibited by Australian Customs regulations.
I’m sorry for your loss, but please don’t send me the only remaining hair or ashes from your precious friend! While I take all the care I can, I cannot control what happens while it’s in transit; and while we’ve not have anything go missing in the post yet (touch wood!) it’s not totally impossible, so please don’t take the risk.
If you don't have much hair or ashes, I suggest ordering one of the products that does not require much material, and not sending all that you have.
I recommend choosing a tracked service when mailing precious items, and following the shipping instructions I provide when you place an order - putting your return address on the outside of the envelope not only allows me to know who has sent me what - it ensures it can make its way back to sender if anything untoward happens during shipping!
Absolutely - and in the case of orders going to Australia, I'm not able to return any unused hair or ashes due to Customs regulations.
I live by the coast in Lancashire and have, when requested, released hair and ashes to the sea at sunset, or along popular dog walking trails.
If you'd like me to dispose of any left over hair or ashes rather than have it returned with your order, drop me a message and we will come to a solution that you're happy with.
Yes - I have made beads and pendants with cat whiskers, feathers and snake skin! I've made wedding jewellery with fragments of sand from a beach with special meaning to the bride. I've made earrings with coloured resin stones and no inclusions at all! If you have a special request, get in touch and we can discuss what's possible.
The core is the metal element that sits around the hole in a bead where you string your bracelet.
'Solid' cores are 100% Sterling silver. Silver plating is when a thin layer of silver is electroplated over another type of metal, e.g. copper.
Plated cores contain less silver and are priced lower than solid cores.
Of course – but it is up to you to ensure that you have the permission of the owner to send me the hair, fur or ash for inclusion.
By placing an order, you are accepting responsibility for this, and I will assume you have permission.
My resin products are not containers that you put hair or ashes into. Epoxy resin is a two-part polymer which chemically reacts and hardens when mixed. When hair or ash is added as an inclusion, it's in there forever, and becomes and integral piece of the jewellery or ornament.
If you are looking for a non-permanent way to preserve and wear hair or pet fur, you might take a look at my glass sphere pendants. These are sealed with the hair inside, but could always be broken to release the hair if you wished.
You can also add your own hair or ashes to my floating charm memory lockets - or I can add them for you.
Ponymandium is a play on 'pandemonium', and our logo combines a rather sweet-looking pony with the symbol for chaos - something I'm sure that people who know horses will appreciate!
When I first started my jewellery business it was making braided horsehair bracelets, hence the equestrian theme. Over the years I have branched out into other types of memorial jewellery, but I've kept the name and symbol - it's a little bit punk and a little bit silly and it makes me smile.
Please rest assured that I do what I can to make sure your ordering experience isn't in any way chaotic!
